FOOTBALL: Like their namesake - the Redback - Gatton football club has built a "web” that binds its players, officials and fans together.
A web that binds its juniors and seniors and sees its members stick with the club for years and years.
A web that club president Adam Halstead is very proud of.
"Our culture is what makes the club so successful,” Halstead said.
"I've been president for two-and-a-half years and a player for 27 and it's always been about building a positive culture.
"Over the years we've built a great volunteer network - people who are always willing to contribute.
"We have a fantastic supporter base and the players love to be out there on the field with their mates.
"People stay with and come back to the club because they want to - because they love it.”
Halstead was also proud of the opportunities the club provides female players.
"We've got a team in the new under-six all girls competition,” he said.
"I think it's a fantastic initiative, one of the best football officials have ever introduced.
"It lets them (young girls) experience and enjoy the game.
"Long term I think it will only strengthen our senior women's teams as well - providing our players another pathway.”
Mentors lend a helping hand
Gatton Redbacks were faced with a player shortage just a few years ago.
Despite a successful season, many of the club's Colts players had not made transition to senior teams.
But rather than lament their situation the club sprung into action.
Club president Adam Halstead said they decided to work on unifying the club even more.
"Something we're proud of is how well our juniors and seniors are linked,” he said.
"A lot of senior players, coaches and officials now buddy up with our junior coaches and teams.
"They pass on their experience and knowledge and work as mentors.
"It's really strengthened the club's ties and we're seeing big results.”
