UPDATE: Day two play in the Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship is set to resume at 3.30pm as the tournament heads for late Friday finish at City Golf Club.
EARLIER: Day two of the Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship is at risk of being abandoned for the day, with fairways on holes five and six remaining unplayable after being flooded by stormwater drains in today’s midday deluge.
Tournament director Graeme Scott will issue his next update at 3pm but has told players without noted improvement to the fairway conditions the championship will be called off for the day.
EARLIER: Play in the Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship at City Golf Club is currently suspended after heavy midday rain left parts of the course temporarily unplayable.
An announcement on a possible resumption of play is due at 2pm as ground staff work feverishly to clear greens of excess water.
Round one leader Brad Kennedy, on -9, is yet to begin his second day play.
Callan O’Reilly and David Bransdon share equal second on -8 after completing their morning rounds.
PREVIOUSLY: Play in the 2020 Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship has resumed at City Golf Club under cloudy skies with sunny breaks as players and officials look to get the tournament back on track after yesterday’s rain-disrupted opening round.
Players unable to finish their rounds yesterday after a 2½ hour rain delay were back on course early this morning to complete their first rounds as the championship returns to schedule.
Overnight clubhouse leader Brad Kennedy maintains the front-running at -9 after firing an impressive 61 yesterday in fine conditions.
He hits off today from the first tee at 12.50pm.
Three players – Jamie Hook, Anthony Quayle and Callan O’Reilly – currently sit in equal second spot at -7 during the early part of their second rounds.
Play is scheduled to continue until about 6.30 this evening.
Spectator entrance to the tournament is free and club facilities are available to the public.
