There is not much of Wavell SHS Langer Cup fullback Corey Thomas, but you try getting past him.
Twice in the recent match against reigning champions Palm Beach Currumbin SHS, Thomas came from the clouds to make last-gasp, try-saving tackles.
“I play lock at club so I don’t mind tackling,’’ the Aspley Devils and Norths junior said.“But normally the boys don’t let them through.’’
The result of Thomas’ amazing defence was Wavell SHS drew the game against PBC which is why the side remains unbeaten after three rounds entering tomorrow’s encounter against St Mary’s College Toowoomba.
The match, and all round four Langer Cup fixtures, will be livestreamed at www.couriermail.com.au
Earlier in the competition Thomas showed another trick of the trade - explosive acceleration in open play.

He burst away against Keebra Park SHS like an elite athlete thrusting out of the blocks, which was not surprising given he has been a state standard long jump exponent.
And in a chilling bit of news for his opponents, Thomas can get quicker.
“I did not play last season because of a condition (knee cap),’’ he said.
“I have just worked hard in the gym, in the pre-season and I feel like I am playing well.
“It took me a couple of months to get to full flight again and I am still trying to get there.
“I am not as quick as I used to be so I am still working on my speed,’’ added Thomas, who does four hours specialist sprint work a week.
In many ways Thomas is the face of an unheralded Wavell SHS which has 14 players in their first season of Langer Cup.
“We had a couple of years where we were not winning, and it is good to finally be playing footie to the potential we have.
“We had 14 debutants and we really cracked down on them to work a bit harder than they did in year 10, get them around the footie a bit more, get them down to do extras.
“Little things like that will help their game this year and next year.’’
