RUGBY LEAGUE: The Western Mustangs U18s have kept their finals hopes alive in devastating fashion.

Taking on Wide Bay in their round four Mal Meninga Cup clash at Glenholme Park, the Mustangs were at their dominant best, running out 64-0 winners.

An exceptional first half saw the home side run in eight tries, including early doubles to Riley Wockner and Matthew Wilson, to open up a 44-0 lead at the break.

They went on with the job in the second half, keeping the Bulls scoreless and Wockner bringing up his hat-trick.

Coach Brendan Wilson praised the way his side was able to take control early, and notch an impressive defensive feat in the process.

“We were really happy with the performance,” Wilson said.

“The boys applied themselves well and were able to get away with a comfortable win.

“They stuck with what we’ve been training to. We’ve been concentrating on our defence and were happy to keep them to nil.”

The win keeps the Mustangs in second spot in their division behind the unbeaten Central Queensland Capras, who they will face off with on April 10.

The Mustangs women maintained their perfect start to the Harvey Norman U19s season with a thrilling 30-22 defeat of Wide Bay.

A hot start from the Mustangs saw them score two tries inside the opening four minutes, helping them to a 14-4 lead at halftime.

The Bulls fought back hard however, scoring three tries in quick succession to take a 22-20 lead approaching the final 10 minutes of the contest.

The home side responded when it counted however, with tries to Kyle Janes and Courtney-Lee Nolan helping them over the line.
