Less than four years ago Joseph Litidamu was a promising young star rapidly rising through the junior rugby league ranks.
Fast forward to 2025 he is still a promising young star but instead of plying his trade for Southern Suburbs Tigers in Toowoomba Junior Rugby League he one the Hostplus Cup’s top young prospects.
Making his Hostplus Cup debut in round 2 this year, Litidamu marked his first senior game for the Western Clydesdales with a try-scoring double.
“It’s always been a goal to play in the Hostplus Cup but I didn’t think it would come this soon,” Litidamu, 17, said.
“I spent the last two years in the (Western Clydesdales) junior system and always looked up to the Hostplus Cup boys.
“I was born and raised here. To play for Toowoomba, the community and the region is pretty special.”
Starting against Norths Devils, Litidamu, who scored in the 36th and 40th minutes, also wrote his name into the history books as the Clydesdales’ second youngest debutant.
Litidamu said he would’ve traded his double for a win against Devils, but thankfully he didn’t have to wait too long to celebrate his first team win.
Backing up against Sunshine Coast Falcons he went ‘one better’ scoring a treble in his side’s gritty 24-14 win.
“Scoring tries is a bonus,” he said.
“The boys inside me deserve credit, they’re doing a lot of work to give me those chances to score. I was doing my job for the team.
“Getting the win against Falcons, especially in front of big home crowd, that was the best thing.
“It was a great result for the team and everyone at the club.”
Playing for the Clydesdales is a dream come true for Litidamu but the former St Mary’s College student has no plans to rest on his laurels.
Like every league talent Litidamu wants to play in the NRL but his goals do not stop there.
“The NRL is the main goal. Everyone dreams of that,” he said.
“Another massive goal for me is to put on the Fiji jersey. Both my parents were born there and being able to represent my family, honour where they came from would be amazing.
“I remember growing up and having these massive family events where we all sat down to watch Fiji in international games.
“It’s 100 per cent a massive goal of mine to wear that jersey one day.”
