RACING: A late-meeting winning double to jockey Taylor Marshall helped end the afternoon on a brighter note yesterday for Clifford Park favourite backers.

Punters were on the wrong end of two knockout results during the seven-race card before Marshall steadied their ship with back-to-back wins on Next Chapter ($3.20 fav) and Grand Shanghai ($1.75 fav).

Trainer Desleigh Forster confirmed Next Chapter will spell at her owner-breeder Basil Nolan’s Raheed Stud after she opened her winning account at start number two in the Charlton Tyre Service QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap (1210m).

The half-sister to talented five-year-old Chapter And Verse lasted in a photo-finish for Marshall to edge out Great Brave ($6) by a half head.

The Barry Baldwin-trained Grand Shanghai broke through at start number seven when he cleared out in the home straight to down Itsallkay ($19) by 5½ lengths in the Joe Wagner Group Maiden Plate (2170m).

Toowoomba six-year-old Victory Dance ($3.60) again underlined his bargain-buy tag for trainer Troy Pascoe with a narrow win in the TAB Class 3 Handicap (1210m).

The $2000 stable pick-up edged out Junction ($3.80) and $3.30 favourite Reef Knot in a blanket finish for jockey Glen Colless.

The card featured two boilover results with Red Cavalry ($101) and Mr Azray ($15) both scoring upset victories.
