There was a sensational tie between Churchie and Terrace while a shooting star flashed across Nudgee’s Ross Oval as The Southport School’s Jaxson Davies scored an amazing debut century in GPS First XI action.

And across town Brisbane Boys College’s leggie Ashton Clark bowled his side to victory with a sensational 6-13 as the competition ramped up.

TSS Year 10 student Davies, no stranger to scoring club centuries for Mudgeeraba Nerang, blazed 99 not out before scoring two to reach his ton off just 61 balls.

TSS (4-181) ended up beating Nudgee (179).

Right hander Davies made Ross Oval look like a junior field, lofting eight sixes and striking seven fours before being dismissed for 101.

His teammates roundly applauded their batting dynamo upon his hundred, and then wildly slapped his back when walked back after his dismissal.

Just as impressive with the ball was BBC’s wrist spinner Clark who derailed a BSHS outfit which was eyeing victory.

BSHS were 4-100 chasing 177 when Clark started to work his way through their innings, snaring four wickets either bowled, LBW or stumped.

It was a remarkable debut performance by the Year 11 student who had also scored a handy 19 batting at No.9.

If that was enough drama, the Churchie (8-151) v Terrace (151) match ended in a draw, while in the fourth game Ipswich Grammar School (6-119) crept past Toowoomba Grammar School (116) in a low scoring thriller.

GPS FIRST XI PLAYERS TO WATCH THIS SEASON

At Nudgee, Davies’ 101 pressed the trigger on TSS’ innings after Nudgee paceman Angus McLean had asked questions early.

Davies dominated a partnership with patient Ishaan Sandhu (33 not out) who had the best seat in the house at the non strikers end as Davies unleashed.

Earlier, during the morning session, Nudgee tried to take the game to The Southport School, with batting spearhead Matt Fielding (48, 36 balls) refusing to be dictated by the TSS bowlers.

Nudgee rushed to 50 quickly as Fielding backed his skills, but TSS’ Cameron Sinfield’s persistence (2-20) and Ted Waterman’s introduction slowed the Nudgee innings. Sinfield’s unchanged 10 over spell was influential.

Despite Jack Burton (49) working hard for his runs, TSS gained the upper hand again as spinners Jacob Bath (1-28) and Dushyant Thaman (3-23) finished off the innings.

At Mills Oval, Toowoomba, Ipswich Grammar School crept past Toowoomba Grammar School in a tense match.

IGS bowler Jettison Emmerson (4-17) and new ball exponent William Pamenter (2-18) took the honours, while also receiving plenty of help from Joshua Lossberg (2-15), Luke Harper (2-30) and Jacob Cibulka (2-35).

IGS’s march was held up by Dom Black early (23, 66 balls), Hedley Donges (30) and Gurnoor Singh Randhawa (25), but Ipswich Grammar eventually dismissed their rivals cheaply.

However, scores of 116 have won games before and all was not lost, particularly when Gurnoor Singh Randhawa rustled up an inspired spell to snare three quick wickets.

Tidy glovework by Rhys Johnston supported Singh Randhawa’s rally as IGS lost 4-16 before Harper launched 17 not out at the end.

Earlier in the innings Dinek Kinigama scored 36 for IGS.

On the International Oval at Tennyson, Terrace tail enders Samuel Jones (22) and Elliott Quinn (14 not out) added 39 for the last wicket - before Jones was run out off the last ball.

Jones could not beat home a throw from Churchie’s Sam Drinnen, tieing the game. What a match.

Earlier, Churchie opener Connor Rudman was a hero with the bat, with his innings a gallant 75 (159 balls) that was the backbone of his team’s 8-151.

Churchie were struggling having lost six early wickets.

Then in defence if their total, the Churchie bowlers and fieldsmen rallied.

Henry Hillier (2-27) set a high standard early, Angus Storen blasted through with 4-17, Rupert Bignall maintained pressure (1-16) and Tighe Morris (1-24) challenged Terrace with his spin.

It was a great team performance.

Churchie’s Rudman produced an old-fashioned openers’ knock, hitting just two fours and running the rest in draining heat.

Late in the piece the Churchie innings received a much needed kick along by Henry Hillier (30) and all in all, 8-151 was not a bad result for Churchie given the trouble they were in early. Little did he know it at the time, but Hillier’s knock was crucial.

The Terrace attack was outstanding, particularly Samuel Jones (3-27) who plunged Churchie back on their heels, and Tom Hallion.

Then off-spinner James Eustance and the sun glass wearing leg spinner Theodore Bacalakis kept a lid on the Churchie batsman.

When Terrace batted, Harry Frost top scored with a defiant 46, and then Samuel Jones and Elliot Quinn engaged in tense last wicket stand to get their side within sight of victory.

Churchie looked in the driver’s seat, but steadily Elliott and Jones edged ever so closer to the target.

It came down to the last ball - with Jones run out.

And at Oakman Park, under scorching conditions, the BBC bowers stood up to deny Brisbane State High victory.

Brisbane State High were sent into field first and had the BBC top order reeling.

Left-arm orthodox Kethmin Meegasdeniya and right arm quick Max Isoardi dug their spikes in and had the home side 4-72, with Isoardi proving unplayable at times.

But when Zac Robinson was dismissed for 19, that was the last time BSHS held the upper hand.

In came right hander Shravanth Prabhakar Pradeep Reddy (46) who, with D’Arcy Satharasinghe (40), resurrected the BBC innings before youngster Ashton Clark (19) had an important cameo to see BBC to a score of 177.

Left arm fast Tom Moloney (10-0-30-3), Meegasdeniya (10-0-34-2) and Isoardi (10-0-34-2) were great for the visitors.

In the chase, opening batter Andy Corrie scored 36 from 72 deliveries and withstood a mountain of pressure but it was BBC’s Ashton Clark who completely stole the show.

Clark steamrolled through the BSHS middle order on his way to a six-wicket-haul.

He picked up the important wicket of Corrie which was his fourth in a bowling barrage where he struck for six-straight-wickets.

As mentioned earlier in the story leg spinner Clark finished with figures of 4-0-13-6 in BBC’s first match of the season.

In 11As action, Henry Wiesener (52, 70 balls), and Riley Eckersley (70, 75 balls) fired for the visitors in a convincing victory over Nudgee.

Up on the range, IGS took care of Toowoomba Grammar courtesy of Colby Rudd whose 61 run effort laid a platform for victory.

At Gregory Terrace, Churchie were winners thanks to a brave batting display by Sean Hansen (62*) and Riley Wondergem (34, 25 balls) which helped post a score of 171 after 40 overs. Gregory Terrace skipper Connor Reilly (76*) did everything he could but in the end it was Churchie who took the chocolates.

And at BBC, the home side were convincing in their seven wicket victory over BSHS, spearheaded by opening batters Andrew Klein (68, 44 balls) and James Hockey (26, 28 balls).

In 10As cricket, TSS impressed again with a win over Nudgee, Jonty Philp (67) their best.

Philp had his work cut out for him, with Nudgee’s Corey Stroud claiming a fifer in a wonderful bowling effort. Despite Stroud’s milestone match, James Boots and Isaiah Leo were able to get the job done for TSS, picking up six wickets between them in a vaillant defence of their team’s 136 run total.

In Ipswich, IGS claimed victory over TGS after promising quick Callum Pamenter picked up three wickets to restrict the visitors to 112.

Laird Symons (31) and Ryan Weththasinghe (36) showed determination to give IGS a fighting chance in the run-chase.

At Churchie, opening batter Will Souter (89) and No. 3 Lachlan Moore (57*) undid the brilliance of Gregory Terrace No. 3 William Hawkins, who scored 82 in the first innings of the game, to take the points.

And in the final match Oliver Marschke (77) and Hamish Down (79) did well in their game.

9As highlights included:

+ A half century from Nudgee’s Byron Kratzmann and an economical four wicket haul by Reuben Rayner in a win over TSS.

+ Tom Yeo’s four wicket effort for TGS who won the toss and elected to bowl first. Alby Galbraith (48*) scored crucial runs to see the home side secure a result.

+ At Gregory Terrace Jackson McDonald scored 68 however Churchie’s Angus Peters, also a No. 3 batter, scored a century to wrap the game up quickly and come away dominant victors.

8As highlights included:

+ Three wickets from Nudgee’s Diljot Brar in a losing effort against TSS, who were boosted by opening batter Macaulay Hawkins (33) and No. 3 William Thomasson (26).

+ Three wickets for IGS’ Aahan Chandorikar in a tight win over TGS.

+ A superb partnership between Gregory Terrace’s Charles Spurgin (77) and Alexander Bacalakis (65) who were incredible running between the wickets.

And in 7As action, Mitchell Halpin (48) and Isaac Brown (38) led the way for Nudgee in a fine win over TSS. At Toowoomba Grammar, IGS opening batter Sohind Singh Rauke scored an unbeaten 76 against the new ball to earn an early mark for the visitors. At Gregory Terrace, a cracker unfolded with Frederick Angus (46*) and Patrick Carey (48) shining for the home side, and opener James Turley (80) returning serve for eventual winners Churchie.
