Sporting industry awards announced to recognise excellence in getting people active

Sporting bodies who have excelled in getting Australians active are being encouraged to nominate for awards recognising their excellence. But they had better act quickly.

The National Sports & Physical Activity Convention wants to “celebrate what people are doing to help others get active”.

It will again host the Australian Sport, Recreation and Play Innovation Awards, recognising individuals, government, not-for-profits, the commercial sector, play sector, recreation and sports of their innovations to get more people active in the community.

National Sports & Physical Activity Convention General Manager Anthony Reed encourages those who fit the criteria to celebrate “their amazing work”.

“I think they should nominate to be recognised for their amazing work, amazing innovations for whatever sector they’re in,” he said.

“Let us help celebrate and recognise that work to a wider network and all the attendees.

“We want to celebrate what people are doing to help others get active and get out there.

“We have a platform to do that through the national sports convention and we want to celebrate their achievements.”

There are 10 categories for applicants, ranging from marketing and communication to playground design.

Reed said a broad selection of awards celebrated a bigger amount of innovative contributors.

“The awards are around trying to get the community more active and how different sectors can achieve that,” he said.

“Which is how we broke it down in terms of programs, activities, inclusion, initiatives, there’s been some great marketing campaigns over the years.

“Obviously we want to recognise young people, technology.”

Applications close on May 22 at 5pm AEST.
