They were on opposite ends of big scorelines in Round 1, but both Holy Cross College and Patrician Brothers Blacktown have promised to be better ahead of their Peter Mulholland Cup showdown.

The Round 2 clash, which will be played at Patrician Brothers College, will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV at 12pm on Tuesday, June 3.

Patrician Brothers kicked off their NSW title defence off in fine form, running roughshod over Matraville Sports High in a 48-point win.

But after letting in a late consolation try, and with the pending return of Parramatta representative stars Cameron Bamblett, AJ Johannsen and Chris Petrus for the Round 2 game the reigning champions are expected to go to another level against Holy Cross.

The Eels SG Ball Cup grand final trio, along with City Under-16s representative Cordell Arama were left out of the Patrician Brothers College side in Round 1 and are expected to return with a point to prove.

“I am really interested to see those players come back into the side and really assert themselves,” PBC coach Noah Meares said.

“I think they will have a sense of letting down their mates in the back of their minds. They have owned their reasons for missing the first game and the focus will be on doing the job for the team.

“I was incredibly impressed with the players we had in that first game. It showed the true depth we have in the squad and highlights the culture we have at the College. For these boys, they care more about pulling on that school jersey than they do for their junior clubs.”

Holy Cross College coach Tim White has put faith in his young charges to bring a renewed steel to the clash with the competition heavyweights after a disappointing Round 1.

Holy Cross were put on the backfoot early against All Saints College, Maitland and failed to recover with their own ill-discipline compounding the side’s errors.

“We spoke about that game quickly, but really we just binned it,” White said.

“It was a combination of a lot of errors, underestimating the opposition, youth and inexperience. There were a whole host of issues that are not easy to fix.

“We will change a few things up for the next game, hopefully they can just compete. There is only one way we can react.

“Our philosophy is to compete and put in a good performance.”
