Redcliffe SHS has all but cemented its place in the Langer Trophy semi-finals while harpooning Mabel Park’s campaign during a high scoring round seven match at Kayo Stadium.
With front rower Cody Starr making a memorable return to the side, Redcliffe muscled up early before dazzling to a stunning victory by 34-26.

Entering next week Redcliffe have seven competition points, fifth placed Wavell six, and sixth placed Marsden five points, although Redcliffe has a better for and against than both.
Playing semis will be four years in the making for coach Scott Murray and teacher Jay Wilkinson who oversees the Redcliffe SHS program.
Down by 18-nil at halftime, Mabel Park had to be the first to score, and they were when strike centre Dean Tauaa crashed over in the ruck for the first of his three tries.
But from the restart Mabel Park lost possession, gifting the hyped up home side Redcliffe a chance they were always likely to take, given their mood.
And it was speedster fullback James Gray who created a try for his winger Jonathan Alo when he used his express pace to out flank Mabel Park and give Alo his chance to score.
Trailing 24-4, it was just about mission impossible for Mabel Park.
That was until that man Tauaa turned a turnover by Redcliffe on halfway into a 4Om solo try that gave his side hope.
Tauaa scored another long range try and the Redcliffe players were no doubt grateful for the outstanding goal kicking of five-eight Ngaakau Graham given Mabel closed the gap late.
But the match seemed safe again when another edge attack by Redcliffe finished with centre Jordan Seuao squeezing over in the corner.
Earlier, the importance of the game was not lost on the Redcliffe side which started with the intensity of a knockout final.

Redcliffe’s middle forward battery of Starr, Taufa Taulani, Lepi Teu and Aza Toki-Mautairi roared forward off the back of a flow of possession.
Their intensity, footwork and post contact metres handed Redcliffe puppeteers Payne and Graham time in which to direct Redcliffe’s ordinance.
Redcliffe led 18-nil at halftime, but also left another two tries in orbit after two unfortunate left edge handling errors.
Still the 18-nil advantage was reward for the Redcliffe outfit and a down payment on victory.
With prop Starr absolutely elite early, Redcliffe’s back division then hit the bullseye.
Five-eight Ngaakau Graham fired his centre Seuao into a right side gap, before the No.6 Graham backed up on the inside to score himself.
Tall left winger Hollan Poto then made up for an early mishap with a left corner try, and with No.6 Graham kicking conversions from everywhere, Redcliffe were rattling up points in the bank.
PREVIEW
The South Sydney Rabbitohs have launched a daring raid into Broncos territory to snare rising centre star Dean Tauaa from Mabel Park SHS.
Tauaa, who will captain his school in Wednesday’s crucial Langer Trophy clash against Redcliffe SHS, has been snapped up by the southern raiders.
The clash between Mabel Park and Redcliffe will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV as part of a double header which kicks off with the Walters Cup (Year 10).
Tauaa is the cousin of Canberra Raiders and Queensland Maroons champion Josh Papali’i and had been nurtured by the Broncos in its academy over the last few years.
Brisbane wanted to keep the Logan Brothers junior, but South Sydney has made the centre an offer too good to refuse, as the club looks toward Queensland to help find next generation players.
First grade players like Jye Gray and Liam Le Blanc and top 30 contract winger Haizyn Mellars, a Maroons development squad member, were all members of the Queensland’s national championship winning side in 2022.
Tauaa was in the sights of national selectors this year, before injury ruled him out of the state team trials.
Tauaa is a dynamic centre whose running game is unmatched in his age group.
But it is off the field where he earns even more plaudits.
His club coach at Wynnum Manly this season, Jon Buchanan, said Tauaa was a “wonderful young man who works hard at all aspects of his footy’’.
“He is always in the gym, his prep is outstanding and he is really coachable. He is someone who has an appetite for growth in his game.
Buchanan said Tauaa was “confident but also humble’’.
“Some can get ahead of themselves. He does not get ahead of himself.’’
Tauaa said his cousin Josh Papali’i had inspired him to strive for his NRL dream.
“My cousin, he has been a big influence on my life and my family. He is the first one in our family to play NRL,’’ Tauaa said.
Redcliffe SHS will host Mabel Park at Kayo Stadium on Wednesday at 3.30pm in a vital match.
Mabel Park and Redcliffe both have two wins this season, although Redcliffe have an extra point from its abandoned match against Palm Beach Currumbin last Wednesday due to the storm.
The winner of this game could decide who finishes in the top five and qualifies for the semi-finals.
Importantly for Redcliffe, outstanding prop Cody Starr is set to return and play his first match of the Langer season after being disrupted by injury.
