In the women’s clash, it was St Patrick’s College caused a NRL Schoolgirls Cup boilover, taking down Trinity Bay in a gruelling armwrestle.

In a match where scrambling defence proved crucial, it was a lone try to rampaging backrower Ebony Temple which proved the difference.

St Patrick’s had to pull off a brilliant try-saving cover tackle mere minutes later as they held on for a 4-0 win over their FNQ rivals.

Trinity Bay front rower Mia-Grace Knott and backrower Eve Kusu attempted to inspire their side with a couple of barnstorming carries to set up a final shot at the St Patrick’s line.

But an intercept to halfback Ruby Watt sealed the four-point upset for the Mackay side.

A four-try first half onslaught was enough to help St Patrick’s College’s Cowboys Challenge side to a well-earned win on Tuesday.

The Mackay nursery scored at will in the first half, before holding on with gritted teeth to win 24-4 over rivals Trinity Bay.

St Patrick’s backrower Tyran Attard had a field day on the right edge, scoring a runaway try and setting up one for his outside men in a dominant first half.

Both sides struggled to get the better of the tough conditions, with a howling wind causing plenty of headaches in a error-riddled second half.

A runaway consolation try to rampaging backrower Dallas Robertson gave Trinity Bay reason to smile, as the FNQ side took solace in winning the second half of the contest.

Coming off a second round bye, Trinity Bay will travel to Townsville on Tuesday to clash with Payne Cup heavyweights St Patrick’s College.

The clash will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV as part of a massive triple header of schools league action which will also feature both schools clashing in the Cowboys Challenge (Year 10) and NRL Schoolgirls Cup.

Trinity Bay showed a fighting spirit in their opening round loss to Iganatius Park College, and will need to tap into that if they are to overcome a rampaging St Patrick’s College.

They will also need to contain the express running game of St Patrick’s halves, Adam McSherry and Joshua Toby.

The Mackay juggernaut, which has featured in three-straight Payne Cup finals, is running hot into this weekend’s action following their 12-try demolition of Mackay State High last week.

McSherry and Toby put in a five-star performance in that contest, with their tough running game causing plenty of headaches for Mackay.

Containing the electric duo will be priority number one for Trinity Bay this week, but they can’t put all their eggs in the one basket with St Patrick’s threats right across the park.

Trinity Bay’s Schoolgirls Cup side will aim to maintain their unbeaten start to the NRL Schoolgirls Cup campaign.

Skipper Nelly Robertson led from the front in their 36-point season opening triumph and will be pulling the strings from halfback once again on Tuesday.
