REPLAYS: Football Australia Girls National Youth Championships, Field 5, Day 5

Queensland Silver and Western Australia claim 5th and 7th respectively in under-16 after winning their placement finals. Check out the REPLAYS of the day.

Queensland Silver has survived a dramatic penalty shootout to beat NSW Country in the battle for fifth spot in under-16.

After losing their quarter final yesterday, the team bounced back in impressive fashion to be the next best outside of the top four.

Queensland Silver fought back from a goal down in the first half to level scores at 1-1 at the end of regular time.

The state team then scored all five penalties to beat NSW Country 5-4.

The only blemish for NSW Country was their third penalty.

In the other game, which decided positions, Western Australia was too strong for Tasmania, winning 4-0 to secure seventh.

The other games of the day saw South Australia win a hard fought contest against Victoria White 1-0 in the under-15 placement semi-final.

Western Australia defeated the International XI 2-0 in the under-15 placement semi-final.

It’s playoff time at the Football Australia National Youth Girls Championships, with teams in both the U15 and U16 divisions looking to finish their campaigns in style.

Field 5 will first see the losers from Saturday’s U15 quarterfinals before the U16 girls finish off another big day.

The day starts at 9.55am with South Australia coming up against Victoria White in an U15 placement game. SA took the game to the fancied NSW Metro on Saturday before falling 3-0 while Vic White fell unexpectantly to Northern NSW 2-1.

The Invitational XI, so unlucky to be beaten in penalties by Queensland Maroon, then face Western Australia at 11.20am.

The battle for fifth in the U16 girls kicks off at 12.45pm between NSW Country and Queensland Silver. Both teams bowed out of title contention at the quarterfinal stage after strong preliminary round showings.
