Impressive Millicent guard Mackenzie Burke has delivered country championships glory to the Limestone Coast.
Burke, who is coming off a rookie campaign in the NBL1 Central for Mt Gambier, was at her destructive best in a big Under-18 Division 1 women’s final at the SA Country Under-18 Championships.

The Millicent point guard finished with a game-high 25 points as the side ran out comprehensive 76-27 winners over a Daisy Hocking-led Strathalbyn in the final.

Burke traded three-pointers with teammate Piper Paul (21 points), with the pair shooting five each in a lights out display.
The ultra-impressive Ethan MacDermot helped lead Eastern Hills to the Under-18 Men Division 1 title in a 84-67 win over a valiant Barossa Valley.
MacDermott, who has set the national championships on fire with his scoring ability over the pasyt two years, finished with a personal haul of 35 points in the victory.
The Eastern Hills weapon finished the tournament as leading scorer with 112 points across the two days.

Ezra Wormald and Cooper Mugford did their SA Country selection chances no harm finishing with 20 points each for Barossa Valley.
Whyalla were crowned Under-18 Men Division 2 champions after Kai Edwards inspired the Steelers to a 60-42 win over Yorke Valley.
The Whyalla centre wasn’t afraid to get into the contact early, and worked his way through several double teams under the rim to finish with 23 points and a mountain of rebounds.
Noah Brokken added 11 points for the Steelers while Kolbi Wright was Yorke Valley’s vest with 18 points.
An 11-point haul for Keane Jamieson helped Great Southern overcome rivals Mount Gambier 35-29 in a tightly-contested Under-18 Men Division 3 grand final.

The SA Country Basketball Under-18 Championships is a tournament that has produced a host of top talents, including recent Australian junior representative Daisy Hocking.
The coverage will include every match from two show courts across two massive days of action, and will also feature four grand final showdowns on the Sunday.
Port Augusta Devils are shooting for a third straight title win in the Division 1 girls tournament after taking out last year’s final against Riverland.
Great Southern were the standard bearers of the men’s 2024 SA Country Basketball season, winning the Under-18 Division 1 title, an Opens title and the Under-16 Division 1 title all in the same year.
Brandon Gillespie was a key figure in both the Under-18 and Opens titles last year making a big contribution on the floor in both grand finals.
Gillespie was rewarded with selection in the SA Country side which finished sixth at the Basketball Australia Under-18 National Championships
While scouts across regional South Australia have been paying close attention to the best players coming through the grades, SA Country Basketball chief executive Danny Millard said the championships provided an opportunity for those flying under the radar to make a name for themselves.
