RACING: Toowoomba trainer Michael Nolan and Reeves’ family members turned back the clock to some memorable racing moments when they combined for an exciting Clifford Park victory tonight.
Memories of top flight horses who have sported the familiar Reeves’ white and green sash colours were revived when debutant Kisukano ($1.30 fav) sizzled to a debut victory in the Hello Harry QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate (1050m).
The Bel Esprit-Kiss For Gran filly was backed as if unbeatable and lived up to that confidence in dashing style.
After being pushed to the early lead by Skye Bogenhuber following an awkard jump, Kisukano extended on straightening and motored to the line under kind hands to score by 7½ lengths.
Her winning time was well inside Perudo’s class record while she put her final 600 metres behind her in 34.97 seconds
Scone visitor Ursula ($12) was best of the rest at her first outing with yet another debutant Red Wabbat ($11) another 1½ lengths back third.
Kisukano is a granddaughter of Grouse Lane who Nolan prepared for numerous wins.
“I started training for Peter and Michael about 25 years ago,” Nolan recalled.
“We had a lot of success with horses like Grouse Lane, Princess Margaret and Prince Hakeem among others.
“They bred this filly and race her with a big string of family members and friends and I was grateful to be approached to train her.
“We were expecting her to go out tonight and do what she did, but they still have to do it, and she’s off to an exciting career start for everyone.”
