RACING : Toowoomba trainer Kevin Kemp will happily revert to plan “B” when he chases more Dalby spoils at Bunya Park tomorrow.
Kemp will bid for a third Paul & David Winter Newmarket Handicap (1200m) success when he saddles five-year-old Tisani Magic in the $25,000 Dalby & Northern Downs Jockey Club feature.
Kemp won the 2017 and 2018 Dalby Newmarkets with Tisani Magic’s half-brother Tisani Tomso and also took out the 2013 Dalby Cup with Jack’s Back.
Tisani Magic is also an acceptor for tomorrow’s Class 6 Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm.
But after drawing gate 13 in the 16-horse field, Kemp has switched the gelding’s focus to Bunya Park.
“The wide draw in Brisbane makes it pretty hard, and we’re happy going to Dalby with him instead,” Kemp said yesterday.
“Dalby’s a good club where I’ve enjoyed a bit of luck over the years and the track should have done well after the recent rain.
“We’ve been lucky enough to win a couple of Newmarkets with this bloke’s half-brother Tisani Tomso, and this looks a suitable race for him on Saturday.
“He’s only had about 22 starts and his first-up run was not too bad at Eagle Farm where he didn’t finish that far from them after drawing wide and having to go back.
“A little bit of rain going into Saturday won’t worry him either.
“He won on a heavy 10 at the Sunshine Coast one day so he’s okay in all conditions and he did finish second at his only Dalby start early on.
“He’s just a strong, honest horse like his half brother.”
Among the toughest for Tisani Magic to beat includes top weight Mishani El Lobo from Troy Pascoe’s Toowoomba stable.
Mishani El Lobo has scored two wins from four starts since joining Pascoe’s team, including an Eagle Farm victory over 1200 metres on February 1.
The six-year-old has been lumped with 61.5kg top weight for tomorrow’s assignment but will benefit from a 1.5kg claim for apprentice Nathan Fazackerley.
Tomorrow’s Bunya Park card has extended to eight events after the QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap (1100m) was split into two races with the meeting starting time moved forward to 12.38.
The card is also highlighted by the Wild River Concrete Lightning Handicap over 800 metres.
The 10-horse field includes Godfather’s Girl for premier Queensland trainer Tony Gollan.
Gollan is looking for successive Dalby Lightning wins after taking out last year’s event with Straturbo.
