Kasita add to Webb and Evans’ winning booty

Toowoomba filly surges to upset win while Paul Nolan maintains his winning stable run.

RACING: Toowoomba trainer Tony Webb and jockey Nathan Evans added to their profitable January partnership when Kasita charged to an upset Clifford Park win yesterday.

Kasita ($10) finished strongly from well back on straightening to grab victory on the line in the Furneys QTIS Three-Year-Old Class 2 Handicap (1100m).

The filly arrived to down $2.80 favourite Mishani Courage by a long neck while Rapido Gris ($3.20) also finished strongly from well back to be only a half-head away third.

Kasita’s drive to the line also took its toll on Evans who was stood down for the remainder of the meeting after becoming distressed following the race.

Webb and Evans combined earlier this month to win the $250,000 Magic Millions Cup with Clockwise.

Trainer Paul Nolan (Jnr) also maintained his high mid-season winning strike-rate when he peeled off a race-to-race double.

Keep On Loving You ($5.50) got the winning stable ball rolling when he finished strongly for Brad Stewart to down Love Yers All ($14) by 2½ lengths in the Neil Mansell Transport Benchmark 58 Handicap (1200m).

Higher Love ($16) continued an impressive campaign for Nolan when jockey Kenji Yoshida brought the five-year-old with a powerful finishing burst to score a ¾-length win over Westbrook Warrior ($91) in the Wholesale Horsewear House Class 3 Handicap (1300m).

Both Nolan stable winners are by high flying Queensland-based sire Love Conquers All.

Nolan’s double took his winning tally to six wins from only 12 runners since December 14 at an impressive 50% strike rate.

Jockey Brad Stewart took the night’s riding honours with three winners while apprentice Aidan Thompson continued his run of good form with a winning double.
