RUGBY LEAGUE: Opportunity was the reason Jada Ferguson made the switch to a new code.
Now the Toowoomba multi-sport star gets her biggest chance to make an impression.
She’ll line up for the Queensland U19s against New South Wales on Friday night as a curtain raiser to the Women’s State of Origin.
“I’m really excited. It’s an awesome experience to play before the women’s game,” Ferguson said.
Witnessing the rise of her cousin Shenae Ciesiolka, who won an NRLW title and State of Origin in her debut season, was an inspiration for Ferguson.
Both have enjoyed success in touch football and Rugby Sevens, and Ferguson said she wants to see how far she can progress.
“She played league after making the switch,” Ferguson said.
“I’ve only played in the BHP comp, and was fortunate enough to make the Queensland squad for nationals.
“There’s just so many opportunities in league. Seeing Shenae play with the Broncos and Origin, I wanted to give it a go.
“The ultimate goal is to make an NRLW team. I’m obviously still young, but to get into a squad would be amazing.”
