The Peter Gelagotis stable was happy to stump up the late entry fee to given emerging filly Recuperato a crack at $1m in prizemoney in Sydney.
Recuperato broke her maiden in emphatic fashion when sprinting hard from the rear to post a comfortable win in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes at Flemington last month.

That win earned connections more than $120,000 in prizemoney, giving the Gelagotis camp the impetus to pay a $22,000 late entry fee to run Recuperato in Saturday’s Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes at Randwick.
“She came through the Flemington win so well that we had to keep going with her,” racing manager Manny Gelagotis said.
“We were looking for a reason to send her to the paddock, which we always do with our two-year-olds, but she has thrived since the Flemington win.”
Gelagotis said a track gallop at Pakenham on Monday clinched Recuperato’s trip to Sydney.
“She worked great and we’re definitely going to press on,” Gelagotis said.
“Whether she’s good enough, we don’t know, but she’s earned a chance for us to find out.”

Recuperato is one of 12 acceptors for the Percy Sykes Stakes and one of three last-start winners in the 1200m contest.
Ben Melham will again ride Recuperato, who is a $26 chance in opening Percy Sykes Stakes betting.
Bookies installed the Godolphin youngster Tempted as the $2.60 favourite ahead of Melbourne filly Inkaruna, who is at $4.50.
Tempted was beaten less than a length in the Golden Slipper at his latest appearance while Inkaruna was third in the Group 2 Reisling Slipper Trial last time out.
