MOTOCROSS : Kaleb Barham gets one chance this year to shine on his home stage and he intends making every post a winner this weekend at Echo Valley Raceway.

Toowoomba-born Barham will be one of almost 200 riders expected to line up at this year’s annual Mountain Man Motocross meeting.

The two-day event is the biggest on Toowoomba Motocross Club’s calendar with the iconic mountain circuit attracting the nation’s leading competitors and international interest.

Barham – a former national junior motocross champion – is relishing his return home this weekend to take on the sport’s elite riders.

“I’m really looking forward to this weekend,” Barham said trackside at Echo Valley yesterday.

“It’s going to be an unreal event.

“The track crew has done an unreal job, so for the spectators it’s going to be absolutely unreal.

“There’s going to be plenty of bar-to-bar racing.

“It’s going to be kind of a our last big hit off before the nationals.

“We’ve got the likes of Aaron Tierney and Jesse Dobson coming.

“We also got the reigning motocross champion Todd Waters and Kirk Gibbs (2017 winner) is going to be here as well so there is plenty of talent coming.

“I’m looking forward to the weekend for the fact I am the local guy.

“There’s obviously that little bit of a chip on my shoulder already.

“I know the track pretty well and I’m renowned for riding well here.

“Obviously I’m going out to be on the podium.

“This track is one of a kind.

“We’ve got a national circuit and I’m looking forward to seeing how all the boys adapt to it.

“The national boys are kind of used to it.

“It’s been a circuit we’ve been able to race the last couple of years.

“For us this is the only event we get to race on this track this year, so Mountain Man Motocross is going to be unreal for the spectators.

“We’re racing for sheep stations. We leave it all out on the track.”

Saturday events include Mountain Women, vintage and sidecar racing.

Sunday is headlined by Mountain Man qualifying and feature event.

Racing starts 8am each day.
