JAMIE Hilt’s belated entry into the professional boxing world hit a new high at Rumours International tonight when he claimed a WBU World Super Lightweight title victory.

The Thargomindah product and Toowoomba resident earned his world championship belt with a unanimous points win over New Zealand champion and 18-times winner Cairo George.

The 12-round bout ended prematurely in the ninth round after the ringside doctor ruled George was unable to continue as the result of an eye cut.

The cut was ruled to be accidental with the fight decision then put in the hands of the judges who each had Hilt ahead on points 87-86, 89-82 and 87-84 and the vacant title victor.

Thirty-nine-year-old Hilt had his first pro fight in 2015.

Earlier Toowoomba dynamo Steve Spark seized the vacant International Boxing Federation Australasian Super Lightweight title with a crushing first-round victory over Brisbane’s James MacDonald.

Spark claimed the belt when the referee ruled at the 2min 57sec mark MacDonald was unable to continues after copping a round-one Steve Spark onslaught.

Other winners on tonight’s card included Chris Brackin, Gavan Hornery and Billy Holland.
