On paper Highfields Eagles are the red-hot favourites heading into their TRLW round 7 clash this weekend.

The Eagles are flying high on a three-game winning streak, scoring 96 points, conceding just 14 and up against a team that picked up just its second win of the season last weekend.

Games are not won on paper though, and the defending premiers are up against a determined Gatton Hawks.

“Now is probably not the time we want to be facing them,” Highfields captain Tee Rogers said.

“They’re coming off a win which will have them full of confidence and we’re missing a few players as well who will be with the Clydesdales this weekend.”

Despite boasting the best attack and the defence in the competition the defending premiers have managed to fly under the radar this season.

Sitting just off the pace, Eagles climbed to the top of the table for the first time this season with a win over Valleys.

Brothers commanded the spotlight early in the season, but Rogers believes her side’s results have been overshadowed by the overall rise in competition.

“I think a lot of people probably expected teams to lift when they played us as premiers,” she said.

“I don’t think that’s really the case. When I look at it, I think everyone has lifted.

“The level of the whole competition has improved a lot.

“Looking at Gatton this weekend, just like any team in the comp, we can’t take them for granted.

“You have to treat everyone with respect because the competition is really tight this season, everyone is capable of a win.”

Heading into Sunday’s away match Rogers said she has been most impressed by her side’s unity this season.

“We’ve got a few new girls who have come up through the club’s junior pathway,” she said.

“The amazing thing about the side is between the new girls, the BMD players and the older heads everyone is just a big family.

“Everyone does their part for the team first and that is why we are doing so well.”
