RACING: Recent Toowoomba arrival Hautclere followed in his brother’s successful footsteps when he made a winning stable debut for Mark Currie at Clifford Park tonight.
Hautclere gifted apprentice Sophie Wilcock her first Toowoomba winner with an all-the-way display in the Furneys Class 1 Handicap (1000m).
The Exceed And Excel four-year-old got favourite backers off to a welcome meeting start when he wrapped up career win two from 17 starts with 2½ lengths to spare on the line from Flying Crackerjack ($17)
Iced ($3.40) worked home fairly to be ¾ length back third.
Hautclere – a former Victorian and Gold Coast galloper – is a half brother to Sword Of Justice who scored dual city wins after joining Currie Racing last year.
“He’s raced by the same connections as Sword Of Justice and came to Mark about five weeks ago,” stable spokesman Shane Iverson said.
“He was with the Edmonds stable previously.”
“He has settled in really well and won a jumpout a couple of weeks ago and ran up to that today.”
Currie finished with two wins on the seven-race card after Honey Baby ($2.70 fav) justified her strong support with a ¾-length win over Keep On Loving You ($7) for jockey Michael Hellyer in the Living Turf Ratings Band 0-58 Handicap (1300m).
Trainer Paul Nolan Jnr eventually found the winner’s stall after earlier minor placings with We Built This City and Keep On Loving You on the card when Higher Love responded perfectly to a patient Josh Oliver ride with a half-length victory in the Neil Mansell Concrete Class 2 Handicap (1640m).
Apprentice Nathan Fazackerley paid credit to Toowoomba trainer Troy Pascoe after they teamed to win with another recent Toowoomba arrival in the Queensland Electrical Solutions Benchmark 72 Handicap (1110m).
Fazackerley added to his run of winning Clifford Park form when he steered resuming Mishani El Lobo ($5.50) to a half-length win at the six-year-old’s first start for Pascoe.
“Mr Pascoe’s a great trainer, and he had him spot on today,” Fazackerley said.
Saturday’s win was the Commands’ gelding’s eighth from 36 starts in what was his first run since June this year.
# TOOWOOMBA trainer Barry Squair celebrated an Eagle Farm summer feature victory today when game four-year-old Love You Lucy scored a spirited win in the Provincial Summer Series Final (1300m).
Ridden by Toowoomba jockey Ron Goltz Love You Lucy ($5.50) led in a Clifford Park-trained quinella when she held off the Tony Webb trained Clockwise (Nathan Evans, $7) to win narrowly.
The win was Love You Lucy’s fourth from her latest five starts.
THE WIN
CLASS shone through when MISHANI EL LOBO lumped 60kg to victory first up from a six-month break for his new trainer Troy Pascoe in what was a pretty hot Benchmark 72 line-up.
THE TRAINER
STEPHEN KIRKWOOD added to his late 2019 winning run when $1.55 favourite Deep Melody showed plenty of ticker under immense pressure in the home straight to scrape home in the Class 3 Handicap.
THE RIDER
JOSH OLIVER gave punters a glimpse of the type of form that has him a clear premiership leader with a perfect ride on Class 2 victor Higher Love.
FROM THE STAND
Race 1: The connections of Love Yers All stepped in early and snapped up the 16.00 on offer. There was rough specking for Run The Cutter at 31.00. The punters waited for the 2.00 on the favourite and winner Hautclere. A phone bet came through at $2000 at the 2.00. The totes paid big undoers and the punters were off on the right leg.
Race 2: Here there was rough specking for Splashette at 21.00. New Alliance had friends at 12.00. Boom Boy went into the book to the money. The bookies were betting overs on Pieridae and there was no cash on track and no phone bets came in. The winner Mishani El Lo had a few things against it, but proved them all wrong and paid well on the totes.
Race 3: For a Benchmark 58, there was good interest. Golden Symphony was hard to lay and the bookie was 7.00 to see any money. There was specking for Lady Micaela at 16.00. The big shortner on the QOP was Grandioso 4.40 into start 3.50 but no money came back to the track. The winner Honey Baby was 2.90 into start 2.07 and there were some good cash bets on track. The totes paid well undoers here.
Race 4: No real interest in the Class 2. The big go on the QOP was Bel Beau 4.20 into start 2.06 and punters left their money in. The winner Higher Love was steady at the 3.90 and was a break square race for the bookie.
Race 5: The connections stuck loyal to Let’s Boom and took the 2.30. Unusual Aunt was 4.4 0 into start 3.40 with no real money on track. The winner Gasparini was 7.00 into start 6.00 and another break square race for the bookie.
Race 6: Here the punters wanted only the one runner in Deep Melody. The track bookie bet 2.00 Deep Melody in cash and there was one phone bet of $2000 at 1.80. Deep Melody won by a small margin, but as they say an inch might as well be a mile.
Race 7: As soon as the bookie put 2.30 on Skyquake the punters stepped in. Then the phone money came for Skyquake with a bet of $2000 at the 2.00. The connections were on Yazzi Jean at 9.00. There was late money on the QOP for the winner Hidden Action 13.00 into sp 10.00. Overall the bookie went home a small winner on the night thanks to the last race.
