SPEEDWAY : Toowoomba brothers Tim and Ryan Harris are hoping it’s how you finish the racing year and not how you start it after suffering a huge setback in their season-opening race.
It’s back to the workshop for team Harris after its Wingless Sprintcar was involved in a spectacular rollover at Archerield earlier this month.
The car was mounting a serious race charge high on the track for Tim when it clipped a rival’s wheel before spiralling end for end and landing on its roof.
The crash quickly undid all the off-season development and improvements put into the car ahead of a promising racing year.
But Tim remains philosophical about the crash as he looks to pick up the pieces ahead of a restart, possibly as early as next month.
“It’s a real shame, the car was showing a lot of pace before a small mistake finished our night and puts us back in the workshop,” Tim said this week.
“But it is what it is.
“It puts us on the backfoot so early in the season.
“We did quite a bit of work in the off-season and the early racing signs were good.
“We tidied up a few things and did a fair bit of work on the shock packs which we were starting to get right.
“All the hard work we put in at least was working.”
The Harris team is now racing against time to have its car ready for the first Wingless Sprint round at Toowoomba Speedway on November 23.
“We are still in the process of making a full list of the work we have to do,” Tim said.
“A lot will come down to whether or not we can repair the chassis or a new own is needed.
“We’re hoping we can get going by the end of next month.”
