BOXING : The Queensland, national and international sporting spotlight will shine on Toowoomba in February when one of the city’s leading ambassadors is recognised for his contribution to boxing.
Brendon Smith will be honoured on Friday, February 7 at Burke and Wills when friends, family and supporters gather for Smithy’s TGW Gala Dinner Blood, Sweat & Tears Over 30 Years.
The night, which is expected to draw high profile boxing and sporting participants from all points, pays tribute to Smith’s 30-year contribution to boxing.
The dinner also incorporates the Boxing Hall of Fame.
From humble beginnings in his hometown of Pittsworth to TGW & Smithy’s Boxing Gym and the world’s biggest boxing stages, Smith has been a tireless advocate in promoting his sport and nurturing grassroots participants.
“It’s been a long journey,” Smith said this week.
“It’s been enjoyable, hard and sad.
“There have been a lot of mixed emotions along the way.
“We haven’t stopped since we started out 30 years ago.
“I’ve been humbled by the friends I’ve made and the support I've received on behalf of my family over that time.
“I’m looking forward to catching up with many great people from all over the world at the dinner.
“It will be a special night.”
