FUTSAL : The growing popularity of futsal as a sport and recreational option is set to spread to Toowoomba primary schools.

Ruiz Futsal Queensland (RFQ) has joined forces with Ruiz Football Academy (RFA) to help promote futsal participation and development.

RFA’s latest expansion includes a planned primary-school futsal competition in Toowoomba.

Five schools have already agreed to be part of the program.

Ruiz Football Academy head Luis Ruiz travelled from Brisbane to Toowoomba yesterday with Chris Cahill in the latest step of lifting the sport’s profile in the city.

Ruiz is a former professional footballer and futsal World Cup player from Costa Rica who founded RFA to help expand the sport in his new home, Australia.

Vanessa Hansen and Tanya Allen are the owners of RFQ and have joined forces with RFA to provide high level coaching to all futsal classes and clinics.

“Ruiz Football Academy employs and trains coaches who visit schools and local clubs to facilitate fun and energetic futsal/football development sessions for children from pre-prep and kindergarten all the way through to primary and secondary school,” Hansen said.

RFQ activities include:

# School based training programs

# School holiday clinics

# School tournaments

# One-on-one coaching

# Small group-based training

# Club Academy programs

# Club competitions

# Outdoor football club partnerships

# Tournaments

# International tours

All programs will be conducted by Ruiz Academy coaches.
