LEAGUE: NRL veteran Michael Witt has thrown his support behind Toowoomba’s NRL bid.
The Newtown Lions product, who played nearly 100 games in the NRL, believes hosting any club or game would be a massive boost for the region.
“Having any of the clubs here in Toowoomba would be fantastic, and there’s no reason it couldn’t happen,” he said.
“Clive Berghofer is a great facility for training or a game, and the whole community would get right behind any club or games.”
As well as the obvious economic benefits of having the NRL in Toowoomba, the local game will also benefit from the move, according to Witt.
“Toowoomba is a grassroots rugby league community with a rich history,” Witt said.
“Any game here would have a great atmosphere around it and would sellout the stadium.
“I think the local game would benefit a lot as well.
“The areas around Toowoomba don’t have the luxury of regular access to NRL games and players.
“Being able to watch their NRL heroes right in front of their eyes would be amazing for the young kids and players in the stands and would be an inspiration for the next generation of players.”
