There has been one constant in Toowoomba Rugby League the past few seasons – Chris Woodbridge.
The fleet-footed, electrifying fullback is the competition’s best player, with back-to-back Webcke Price Medal wins, and is writing a resume that will see him remembered as one of the all-time greats.
Woodbridge’s 16 point haul against Brothers on Saturday headlines our TRL Talking Points from Saturday’s round 7 fixtures.
Battered Brothers
Shell-shocked after a 42-10 battering at the hands of defending premiers Gatton last round, Brothers fell to another home defeat on Saturday.
Leading 10-6 at halftime, Brothers fell 22-16 to a gritty Dalby Diehards.
TRL will not be surprised to hear that it was a moment of Chris Woodbridge magic that turned the game in Dalby’s favour.
Woodbridge dragged his team back into the contest early in the second half – scoring an intercept try to give his side a 12-10 lead.
The dual Webcke Price Medal winner, who was well supported by fellow try scorers Bailey Rathmell and Josh Chappel, was ultimately the difference between the sides.
Woodbridge is dependable, consistent and exciting, and he can do it.
From game-changing moments of brilliance and tries to his accurate kicking off the tee, he is a proven game winner.
Equal third on the tryscorer leaderboard and the competition’s leading points scorer he is already a favourite to win the Player of the Year medal again.
Wonder Wattles
Dwayne Duncan was the star of the show in an impressive Wattles’ win at home.
The veteran playmaker, who scored 16 of his team’s 38 points on Saturday, has been a revelation since making the move to Wattles in the off-season.
Duncan’s excellent combination with halfback Tom Hatch has Wattles flying this season with the second best attack in the competition.
He opened the scoring in his side’s 38-16 win over Goondiwindi Boars and finished with a try-scoring double.
It was stop-start affair with both times battling in the middle before Wattles ran away with it late.
Boars’ centre Glenn McGrady be in trouble with the judiciary this week after being sin-binned after allegedly committing a professional foul.
