FISHING : Aspiring young anglers have the chance to learn some finer fishing points while enjoying a fun day at Cooby Dam in May.

About 30 positions are available in this year’s Sunfish Queensland fishing day at Cooby on May 9.

The coaching day is the fifth hosted by Southern Cross Fishing Club Inc.

The event is designed to introduce youngsters to the basic skills of fishing with topics including environmental considerations, fishing safety, equipment, knots, lure and bait selection and casting.

All activities are supervised by qualified instructors.

The day is open to boys and girls, aged 8-14 years.

It runs from 9am to 2pm.

Participating kids will receive a free rod, reel, tackle box and other “goodies”.

Morning tea and barbecue lunch will be provided for children and accompanying parents who are encouraged to attend and also enjoy the day.
