HOCKEY: Grand final night of the Club Glenvale Challenge saw both minor premiers stand tall when it counted.

After downing the SQPS Scorers last week, the CS Vixens backed it up once again at Clyde Park with a convincing 5-0 win in the women’s final.

The men’s division had a first, as the HSR Hot Shots completed a perfect season, capping off their unbeaten run with a comprehensive 12-3 defeat of the AgEtal Farmers.

The success of the Vixens put the exclamation mark on a surging year, as they bounced back from a round one loss to win their remaining games.

They started the final with intent, with a powerful Tatum Stewart from a penalty corner putting them in front early in the first quarter.

Stewart was again in the thick of things, with a crisp pass finding Macey Hill in the circle to double the lead in the second quarter.

Hill once more found herself in the right spot at the right time, latching onto a Katie Wollstein pass in the circle to put the ball past the keeper.

The result was put beyond doubt early in the third term, with Hill’s third and subsequent field goal conversion completing the 5-0 whitewash.

“We kept to our structure and got a good start,” Vixens coach Shane Mogg said.

“Macey Hill had a great game up front. We were able to use the space well and didn’t panic in defence.

“The last few games we’ve started slow in the first quarter and other teams have been on top.

“Our warm-up was good and everything was spot on there. When we started the game, everything fell into place.

“I’m really proud of the girls.”

Mogg praised the attacking prowess of his team, including Tannah Hood’s player of the match performance.

“Macey and young Tannah Hood worked really well together, along with Katie,” he said

“Whoever was up there did their job. Something we spoke about was getting results when the ball was in the circle, and I couldn’t have asked for more.”

HOT SHOTS RUN RAMPANT

There was no stopping the rampaging Hot Shots men, as they scorched Clyde Park to a big win over the Farmers.

An explosive first quarter saw nine goals scored, as the minor premiers opened up an imposing 8-1 advantage.

The ability of the Hot Shots to convert their field goals was again on show, with Wilson Love, Bradley Hobday and Josh McPaul turning their strikes into two goals early on.

A scoreless second term was countered by McPaul and Hobday bringing up their hat-tricks and opening up a 10-2 lead heading into the fourth.

Hobday again converted a field goal to give him five for the game, capping off a big 12-3 victory.
