The Toowoomba Touch Association Elite Mixed competition is back for another year with new teams and new players set to take to the field.

The draft was held on Tuesday night with 10 local businesses sponsoring the teams, with six sides competing for the elite title and four in the masters comp.

The tournament has attracted some of the world’s best touch football players to the Garden City, with everyone from state and Australian representatives, to NRLW stars such as Shenae Ciesiolka and Jada Ferguson, Western Clydesdales reps and young Toowoomba touch football guns.

“We have plenty of guy middles and links and girls that can play link wing so I think we’ve done well.”

First draft pick and why: “Blaise Prendergast, he’s 19 now but he’s an absolute gun. He’s a great kid, plays South West open mens, Aussie 18s, Queensland 20s, plays in the prems comp in Brisbane and he’ll go very well for us.”

Underrated pick-up: “Rylan Martin, he was a bit of a steal in the draft.”

Earthmoving Parts and Service Solutions Elite team

“We’re super happy with it (the team) and we got pretty good picks so we’re looking good,” co-captain Indy Kelly said.

First draft pick and why: “Damon (Van Der Woude) – Damon’s played in the Filipino Mixed World Cup Championships and they beat New Zealand which was pretty unknown.”

Underrated pick-up: “Sam Sheppard – he’s a really good winger, he played for Australia.”

The Fit Lab Elite team

First draft pick and why: “Mac Nolan, because he played in my team last year and we won it last year and he was really good and he’s really committed.”

Underrated pick-up: “Sedeequa Nelson, I think here were a lot of team that were going to pick her after me, so she was a big steal for me. She’s young and she’s got a lot of pace and that’s a big thing in mixed touch.”

Springs Early Education Elite team

“I think we got a pretty young team and we all know each other so should be good to go on the field together,” co-captain Ben Moore said.

First draft pick and why: “Lachie Pierce because he is one of the best players in the world over the years so it was quite an obvious choice to pick him.”

Underrated pick-up: Shane Whitehouse is definitely a bit of a steal for experience, played some really high grade. I would also say Savannah Ranford, also quite strong and played a lot of touch in Toowoomba A-grade.”
