RACING : Trainer Matt Kropp will go back to basics at Clifford Park tomorrow in the hope of helping Toowoomba mare Rosendahl Red regain some of her good early career form.
Rosendahl Red resumes from a month-long ease-up in the Access Insulation Benchmark 62 Handicap (1640m).
The four-year-old hasn’t won since taking out last April’s Toowoomba Guineas (1625m) at Clifford Park and has finished out of the money in recent Brisbane and Clifford Park middle-distance events.
Kropp said Rosendahl Red will now be aimed at shorter distances and he is keen to see some encouraging signs from her in tomorrow’s return.
“She didn’t make a bad start to her campaign, then she had a couple of unlucky runs before racing below her best at recent starts,” Kropp said.
“But we’ll look at keeping her at a mile-to-1800-metre races top from now on.
“She might need this race on Saturday and then hopefully build back up from there.
“I have backed off her over the last month but hopefully she can be hitting the line fresh and she can regain a bit of confidence and well see what happens from there.”
Among the leading chances in tomorrow’s race looks to be the Chris Waller-trained Construe to be ridden by Glen Colless
Kropp’s four Clifford Park runners tomorrow includes Okanagan Miss who also chases a return to the winner’s list in the Mick Sutton Concreting Ratings Band 0-70 Handicap (1110m).
The five-year-old hasn’t won since scoring at Clifford Park last May but showed something of a return to form last time when second at Kilcoy over 1200 metres.
“She’s had a little freshen up as well since racing at Kilcoy early last month,” Kropp said.
“Her last run was better and she does like Clifford Park.
“She’ll be helped a bit as well with a claim for Maddy Wishart who is ridding well.”
Tomorrow’s meeting again features several runners from Brett Cavanough’s Scone stable including Know Where To Look in the TAB Class 3 Handicap (1210m).
Cavanough is currently campaigning north of the border with a small team based in Toowoomba.
Know Where To Look is sure to attract the attention of punters after last start finishing fourth in a Highway Handicap over 1200 metres at Randwick on January 25.
