MOTOR RACING : Toowoomba’s Will Brown will put the frustration and disappointment of Bathurst behind him when he aims up at a “consolation” victory in this weekend’s Gold Coast 600.

Brown will again combine with Bathurst 1000 teammate Anton de Pasquale in their Penrite Racing Holden Commodore ZB as the Supercar Enduro Series moves to Queensland for round two.

Brown and de Pasquale were among the leading qualifiers in the lead-up to the October 13 Bathurst 1000 only to see their Mt Panorama winning hopes go south in an eventful race day for the team.

Brown has already put the Bathurst disappointment behind him as he looks to take positives from the event to the Surfers Paradise street circuit this weekend.

“Bathurst was disappointing and frustrating, but Bathurst is Bathurst,” Brown said yesterday as the Erebus Motorsport team began working on pit-stop practise before preparations crank up today.

“But the car had great pace.

“We were among the early top-five qualifiers and had a car that was a chance of sitting onspacepole after making the top-10 shootout.”

Brown has a winning affinity with the Gold Coast circuit but concedes the 600 presents the biggest challenge of the Supercar year.

“I love the track,” Brown said.

“I won the Formula 4 title in 2016 which I was able to close out at the Gold Coast.

“I was also quite quick down there last year.

“But on saying that, it is what I consider the most difficult race of the season.

“We are confident we will have a fast car again this week, but in endurance racing it’s not necessarily the fastest car that wins.

“Tactics play a big role, although we only have three or four pits stops as opposed to seven compulsory stops at Bathurst.

“It’s a great event to be a part of with a massive atmosphere and hopefully Anton can qualify usspacein a strong position.”
