Brisbane Heat and Queensland Bulls star Jack Wildermuth is set to give back to his home community this off-season.

The star all-rounder will be at Highfields and Districts Cricket Club, helping the next generation of Darling Downs cricketers.

With 70 games of First Class cricket under his belt and more than 80 professional white-ball games, Wildermuth brings an elite level of experience which he will be on hand to pass on.

Highfields club president Tony Morrish said this opportunity will help not only the Highfields players, but everyone in Toowoomba cricket.

“Jack Wildermuth will be helping out with the senior side of the club but it is open to everyone,” he said.

“Sunday was cancelled due to wet weather but we are going to kick it off on Sunday the 16th (of June) at 10.30am.

“It is going to be done regularly throughout the off-season, he is going to come out to the nets periodically to help out the current crop of senior cricketers and it is also open to anyone willing to improve.

“I think it is priceless, just the tips and training methods he will bring especially around the mental side of the game as well.”

With Wildermuth hailing from Toowoomba, the opportunity is set to inspire the current crop of Garden City players to follow in his footsteps.

“They are really keen to be coached by Jack,” Morrish said.

“We have some good kids in B, Reserve and A grade who are looking forward to it.”

After a difficult 2023-24 summer of cricket for the Bulldogs, Morrish hopes the drawcard of learning from one of the region’s best exports in recent years will bring more players to the club.

Along with hoping to draw a few extra players to the club for the upcoming season, Morrish has put a major focus on improving the quality of cricket in the region and believes the clinics provided by Wildermuth will go along towards that.

“We are trying to really elevate the game of cricket,” he said.

“In the country it seems to be struggling a bit and we are trying to lift profile of cricket and see if we can strengthen the Toowoomba comp.”
