Big crowd turns out to see Next Gen 7s stars in Toowoomba

It was easy to tell the exact moments when Toowoomba’s Taleah Ackland was called into action at the weekend.
Ackland was treated to a hero’s welcome every time the crowd caught a glimpse of her distinctive headgear – with cheers going up around the Toowoomba Sports Ground when she made her way from the Queensland Reds’ subs bench onto the field.
The Garden City played host to round 2 of the Next Gen 7s series on Saturday with Queensland and the New South Wales Waratahs going head-to-head in four matches.
The traditional rivals split the four matches, finishing with two wins each, but the Reds walked away with the overall win after scoring more points.
The Next Gen series features some of Australian women’s rugby’s best young stars, Wallaroos and Olympians.
The series has also helped identify and showcase some of Australia’s best players including the likes of Bienne Terita, Faith Nathan, Madison Asby, Teagan and Madison Levi.
Rugby fans were treated to a near full day of action at TSG with a host of Darling Downs and South West Queensland rugby girls in action as well.
