TOOWOOMBA International scoops sixth award victory.

TENNIS : Toowoomba's reputation as one of the nation's leading tournament hosts has again been underlined by a sixth Tennis Queensland award win.

The 2018 Hutchinson Builders Toowoomba International was named most outstanding professional tournament at last Saturday night's Tennis Queensland presentation evening.

The Toowoomba Regional Tennis Centre - USQ Pro Tour event is now in the running for national honours at next month's Newcombe Medal, Australian Tennis Awards.

Toowoomba Tennis Association president Allen Smythe said he is "chuffed" to again accept the award on behalf of the tournament volunteers, supporters and Toowoomba community.

"That is the tournament's sixth such award in seven years since it began in 2012 and we are continually chuffed to see the event recognised in this way," Smythe said.

"The running of the tournament is done by Tennis Australia while we are responsible for the grassroots organising and activities.

"The award is judged on a wide range of things.

"It is based on how the tournament runs, what the feedback is from officials and players and the standard of the facility.

"But there are a lot of things that go into making an event like the Toowoomba Internationals successful.

"Sponsorship, community involvement and media coverage all contribute to it being rated so highly.

"We have made the top three again nationally and we look forward now to seeing how we fare next month in Melbourne."

Smythe is confident this month's Hooper Accountants Toowoomba International will be a strong 2019 tournament of the year contender.

"I believe this year was one of our better events," he said.

# MANDY Mutch from Allora Tennis Club was named the 2018 Geoffrey E Griffith Volunteer Achievement Award recipient.
