SPEEDWAY : Toowoomba Production Sedan driver Amy Evans is enjoying her best season behind the wheel and it can get a whole lot better for her at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway on Saturday night.
Evans holds a narrow lead in the Fox Shocks Labs Australian Series and can wrap up victory with another strong showing in this week’s Dean Fraser Memorial event which doubles as the series’ grand final.
Evans has been speedway racing since she was 16 years old but success on Saturday night in her Nissan Skyline would cap her biggest track moment in 12 years of competition.
“I’ve been pretty consistent during the series which has helped put me in a good position,” Evans said.
“But I’m only around three points in front so it’s going to be tough to hang on this week.
“This is grand final night and it’s make or break for all of us.
“I’ll be absolutely stoked if I can hold on and win.
“It’s definitely my best season by far at the moment and I just hope I can have that little bit of luck you always need to keep it going.”
Evans is one of several females who contest the Production Sedan class and bucks the racing trend in her Skyline.
“I’m one of only a few drivers who don’t race a Ford or Holden but the Skyline seems to go around pretty nice,” Evans said.
“It’s not easy racing among the boys all the time but I love having the chance to compete.
“I could really only do it with the support I get from my husband (Chris) and family including my mum and mother-in-law who help out in what’s a huge operation for us.”
Saturday night’s meeting includes the Queensland V8 Dirt Modified championship and Street Stock Mountaineer Cup.
