Carlton star Sam Docherty and wife Natalie have become parents to a baby girl named Ruby.

The beautiful arrival of ‘Baby Doc’ was announced by the couple on Sunday after she was welcomed safely on Thursday.

The couple were inundated with congratulations from teammates and fans.

Docherty made an inspirational comeback to footy this season after beating cancer and enduring rough days through treatment.

Ruby is the couple’s first child.

Natalie told the Herald Sun she was filled with pride.

“It feels like everything is back to normal,” she said.

“Round 1 when he kicked a goal was amazing and there were so many moments through the season when you realise it’s more than just a game. It’s a community and everyone has been so supportive.”

Docherty said they had developed a special bond with fellow cancer survivor, North Melbourne’s Ben Cunnington and his wife Belinda.

“Sam and Ben have such a nice relationship,” she said.

“Sam’s done two ACLs and has had two bouts of cancer successful as well … perspective is what we have a lot of.

“The whole year we were saying as long you make it through the season and everything is going well, that’s a successful year for him.”

Natalie said she had felt good throughout the pregnancy.

“I’ve been blessed to have an easy pregnancy,” she said.

“I haven’t had nausea or morning sickness.”

The Docherty baby is the second footy arrival in the new year following Charlotte and Jack Viney welcoming their second daughter Chloe on Tuesday.
