SEN’s Tom Morris reported Oliver was admitted at Footscray Hospital around 9am for a number of hours before being discharged early on Thursday afternoon.

The Herald Sun reports Oliver has assured friends and family he is OK.

Oliver is reported to have reached out to Demons officials to notify the club, which was still looking into the situation early on Thursday afternoon.

The club has since released a statement.

“The Melbourne Football Club can confirm that Clayton Oliver was admitted to hospital,” the statement began.

“Clayton was transported to hospital via ambulance, following a medical episode.

“The hospital completed a number of tests and Clayton has since been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.

“The Club will continue to work with Clayton and his medical support team to ensure he receives all the necessary treatment.

“We ask that media respect Clayton’s privacy at this time.”

But Seven’s Mitch Cleary has reported that Oliver suffered a seizure before hitting his head.

“The Melbourne midfielder suffering what 7News Melbourne understands was a seizure that resulted in a head injury,” Cleary reported.

“Oliver was then put through a series of scans and assessments at the Footscray Hospital, he was discharged just after midday and driven home by friends, where he is tonight recovering.”

Speaking on Fox Footy’s Trading Day, the Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph said the Demons’ statement saying simply “medical episode” would mean people would draw their own assumptions.

“A medical episode - some people are gonna read between the lines there. Some people that I’ve spoken to say they felt he hit his head after potentially having a couple of drinks,” Ralph said.

“This is a really worrying situation for the Melbourne Football Club. They’ve had so much that’s happened throughout this football season, they had last week (with Oliver) and all the dramas there, and they would’ve felt that the penny would’ve dropped.

“Unfortunately so many people out there are having sightings of Clayton Oliver, in the wrong places, with the wrong people, or doing the wrong things. Melbourne would’ve thought the wake-up call had been provided last week; that doesn’t seem to have happened.”

Oliver has had a tumultuous month after he was linked with a bombshell trade to the Adelaide Crows.

The 26-year-old has made a commitment to the Demons and chief executive Gary pert last week said the club will support Oliver through the “personal circumstances” he had been dealing with in 2023 that led to speculation about his future.

Oliver is contracted until 2030 and is one of the club’s highest-paid players and immediately became the subject of interest from several clubs when speculation about his future at Melbourne intensified.

According to reports, the Demons had earlier given Oliver an “ultimatum” that he would be shown the door if his behaviour off the field did not improve.

Oliver had recently moved in with Demons captain Max Gawn and his wife.

Speaking ahead of the event, co-captain Jack Viney admitted there had been some concerns over Oliver throughout the season.

“Obviously we‘ve had some challenges with Claz (Oliver) this year,” he told Nine News.

“But we‘re really passionate about putting our arms around him and supporting him and we want him a part of this football club.

“He‘s one hell of a player and a much loved player in the team.”

Pert’s letter to club members last week regarding Oliver’s future was also strongly worded.

“The Club has been aware of and supporting Clayton with his personal circumstances for some time and is committed to continuing to do so,” he said.

“While Club leaders focus on the care and support Clayton needs, we also have a responsibility to uphold our strong Club culture for the benefit of all our players and staff. We have a responsibility to ensure that everyone within the Club is committed to meeting the expected behavioural standards of a player within an AFL high performance environment.

“Clayton understands what is expected of him as a professional athlete, as well as the standards and behaviours a Melbourne person is expected to uphold.”
