Swans fans have been roundly slammed for booing Collingwood youngster Jack Ginnivan in Sydney’s over the Magpies on Sunday.

The Swans got off to a flyer, opening up a two-goal buffer in the first quarter that Collingwood was never able to overcome as the Swans claimed a commanding 11.11 (77) to 7.8 (50) win.

The Magpies were dealt a blow pre-game when midfielder Jordan De Goey was ruled out of the clash with a hip flexor issue.

His absence was compounded when Ginnivan sustained a hamstring injury in the third quarter and was substituted out of the game.

The livewire small forward was booed by the crowd earlier when he was justifiably awarded a free kick.

But Swans fans took it to another level, jeering Ginnivan when he appeared on the big screen at the SCG while he was sitting on the bench injured.

While Ginnivan appeared to brush off the unwanted attention, viewers slammed Swans supporters for booing the 19-year-old, especially while he was injured.

Collingwood midfielder Taylor Adams, who missed the game through injury, tweeted: “Imagine booing an injured player. Grubs.”

RSN’s Mark Stevens said: “Booing a young kid, while injured on bench, pathetic. Feel for Ginnivan. A blight on fans.”

“I think it’s absolutely disgraceful,” former Collingwood and Carlton player Dale Thomas said on Channel 7.

“He’s a young kid going about his business. He’s injured, they pan to him on the bench and the Swans fans boo.

“I know they’re (Swans fans) catching up a bit to what we do in the AFL but I don’t think that is the right thing they should have been doing.”

The Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph added on Fox Footy: “Ginnivan was booed on the sidelines there when his head flashed up on the projector. Guys, I just think we’ve got to have a bit of respect.

“We all understand he’s now become the pantomime villain of the AFL, but he’s also said a couple of times now, as recently as this week, that he’s battled with mental health issues.

“You can talk about whether the media has inflated some of that but I think you need to have more respect for Ginnivan there, especially when he was injured.”

The 27-point loss means Collingwood slip to fifth on the ladder, while Sydney moved to second, with one round remaining in the regular season.
