RUGBY LEAGUE: Here are the results from round five of the TRL Premiership.

PITTSWORTH vs GATTON

The Danes have once again turned in a performance worthy of knocking off a top side, only to be denied late by Gatton in a 23-22 defeat at Pittsworth.

Alex Kahler, Rian Cherry and Tom O’Sullivan all scored early to give Pittsworth n early 16-0 lead, with Tupu Lisati helping the Hawks onto the board before halftime.

Gatton surged to take a 22-16 lead, before Blake Cullen tied things up for the home side late in the piece.

Haydan Lipp stood tall, slotting a field goal in the final seconds for victory.

VALLEYS 34 (Brock Diment 2, Dwayne Duncan, Alex Hinch, Sam Cocker, John Maila tries; Duncan 5 goals) defeated HIGHFIELDS 10 (Thomas Hatch, Pat Templeman tries; Templeman goal)

GOONDIWINDI vs WARWICK

Goondiwindi has maintained its spot on top of the TRL Premiership standings, taking down Warwick 36-4 at Gilbert Oval.

David Armstrong kept his hot try-scoring form intact, breaking the deadlock with two tries in the space of minutes after a scoreless opening 10 minutes.

A clean break from Brandon McGrady laid the platform for the Boars to cross once more, with Geoffrey Prince scoring.

Warwick looked destined to head into the sheds scoreless, however Mitch Wilson capitalised on some scrappy play to trail 16-4 at halftime.

Armstrong secured his hat-trick early in the second half after linking up with David McGrady, who set up his fullback with a pinpoint kick, before finishing the contest with four tries.

GOONDIWINDI 36 (David Armstrong 4, Geoffrey Prince 2, Levi Wilson tries; Malcolm McGrady 2, Prince 2 goals) defeated WARWICK 4 (Mitch Wilson try)

WATTLES vs NEWTOWN

A depleted Wattles outfit have held strong against a gallant Newtown, prevailing 30-22 at Platz Oval.

The Lions opened the scoring in the 13th minute through Coen Hopkins, and soon after extended the lead to 10 as hooker Elliott Speed darted his way over the tryline.

It took 25 minutes, but the TRL’s leading tryscorer Matthew Christensen got the Warriors rolling, as he added another on the stroke of halftime to send Wattles into the sheds down 16-12.

Wattles took their first lead of the game with 15 minutes to play as Braydon Wilson and Ryan Duggan put the home side ahead 22-18.

A penalty goal pushed the lead to a converted try, before Matt Duggan scored late to see the Warriors escape with victory.

OAKEY vs BROTHERS

Brothers is officially off the mark in 2021, downing Oakey 44-26 at Trevor Mickleborough Oval.

Desperate to get off the bottom of the ladder, Brothers came out firing with two early tries to take an early 12-6 lead inside 10 minutes.

Nathan Gaulton again put Brothers in front by 12, before tries to Brayden Schilf and Josh Stanton reduced the deficit to two at the break.

Chance Dawes and Zac Alberts helped the Leprechauns start the second half with a bang, pushing the lead out to 14 with 27 minutes remaining, before Betros’ second put the result beyond doubt.

Three tries in the space of seven minutes after the halftime break proved the difference.

BROTHERS 44 (Sam Betros 2, Chance Dawes 2, Nathan Gaulton, Zac Alberts, N/A tries; Betros 6 goals) defeated OAKEY 26 (Brayden Schilf, Josh Stanton, Gregory Ryan, N/A tries; Dylan Adamson 3 goals)

SOUTHERN SUBURBS vs DALBY

Dalby made it three-straight victories, overcoming a first half charge from Southern Suburbs to prevail 50-16 at Toowoomba Sports Ground.

The visitors got on the scoreboard first through Noah Brady in the opening stages of the contest, before Souths hit right back through Tate McCormick.

Young gun Travis Babington gave the Diehards the lead once more, with both sides continuing to trade tries, before Josh Boyd and Babington’s second made things difficult for the Tigers as they trailed by 16 heading into the sheds.

Second rower Boyd was unstoppable after the break, finishing with four tries to help keep the Diehards firmly entrenched in the top five.

defeated SOUTHERN SUBURBS 16 (Tate McCormick, Ben Howard, Ethan Hearn tries; Clayton Flute 2 goals)
