A longstanding church in Toowoomba’s southern suburbs has held its final congregation, with the property now listed for sale.
The Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church on the corner of West and Alderley Streets in Harristown has hit the market through an expressions of interest campaign by Savills.
It comes more than a week after the church held its final service on Sunday October 30, with more than 100 people attending.
“I served Our Saviour’s congregation for four years in the early 2000s,” Bishop Mark Vainikka said on the Lutheran Church of Queensland’s Facebook page.
“It was an especially emotional and difficult service from that perspective as we have many wonderful memories as a family from our time there.”
According to the online listing by agents Josh Baker and Robert Dunne, the 2200 sqm site offered both short and long-term investment opportunities.
“The property is currently improved with an existing vacant church and hall with development potential,” the listing said.
“Located approximately 2.8 kilometres southwest of the Toowoomba CBD, (its) allowable usages include multiple dwellings, childcare centre, club and education establishment.
“Located onsite is an existing vacant 790 sqm church and hall providing an opportunity for immediately generating income.”
The expressions of interest campaign closes on November 29.
