A modest but beautiful Toowoomba home, which housed three generations of the same family, has hit the market for the first time in nearly a century.
The Loxton family will farewell “Essendon” in East Toowoomba, with Snow Real Estate confident in securing a buyer during its month-long campaign.
The double-brick and stucco property on the corner of Godfrey and Anderson Streets was built in 1924 by Carl Loxton, a Victorian who moved to Toowoomba to open a pharmacy in Ruthven Street.
After Mr Loxton and his wife Elsie died, their son Harry and his family moved into the residence in the 1970s.
Selling agent David Snow said Godfrey Street was among Toowoomba’s best neighbourhoods, adding he was hoping the property remained a family home.
“What’s good is it’s a sizeable block of land, it is in a neighbourhood character area, so council will be enthusiastic about keeping it close to its current look,” he said.
“It’s within walking distance of top schools, so there is hope it will be a family home.
“The interior charm of the high ceilings and timber floors; for people who value that part of Toowoomba, there are few better places.”
Mr Snow said a property remaining in the same hands for 99 years was “unheard of” in Toowoomba.
“The word rare is overused in my industry, but it is rare,” he said.
“It is unheard of in my 40 years of real estate, to be associated with a home that has been with a family for 99 years.
“When you’re in a profession where the average ownership time is seven years, it’s incredibly rare to see something (like this).”
Snow Real Estate will host open house sessions starting from Saturday at 11.15am, with the campaign running until November 21.
