Imperial Square: Construction of Monarch Place tower in Southport to begin in November 2025

The fate of a $650m mega-development ‘unlike anything in Australia’ is becoming clearer as the man behind it reveals his future plans. WHAT HE SAID.

How Imperial Square complex will look

Construction of the next stage of a $3.8bn Southport mega development will begin in 2025.

Azzura Investments boss Robert Badalotti said the 40-storey Monarch Place would begin rising on the corner of Meron St and Bundall Rd in November 2025 on the back of more than $100m of sales.

Mr Badalotti, speaking as the first stage – the $120m TRYP Hotel by Wyndham and Regal Residences – was unveiled, said interest from the market had exceeded all expectations.

“The opening of Regal Residences and TRYP by Wyndham Southport Gold Coast is the culmination of years of planning for what we believe will be a world-class precinct in the heart of the Southport CBD,” he said.

“We’re absolutely thrilled with the ongoing sales in Monarch Place. This second stage will create a community unlike anything seen before in Australia.”

“The completion of Regal Residences is a pivotal moment for Southport. Imperial Square is not just a new development – it’s a catalyst for the revitalisation of this precinct.

“By integrating premium residential, hospitality and dining options, we are setting a new benchmark for Southport as a vibrant, cosmopolitan hub on the Gold Coast.”

The 40-level Monarch Place will be the second tower of Azzura Investments’ Imperial Square project, which if realised will be home to the southern hemisphere’s tallest tower – the 108-storey Majesty.

The council approved the Imperial Square masterplan for the project in 2016.

It has undergone numerous design changes in recent years, with the number of towers fluctuating between three and four.

The project was first announced in late 2023 and was designed by architect Kris Kowalski.

Monarch Place will sit next to the first tower and will feature a mix of 323 units, including sky homes and penthouse.

These include a collection of two and three-bedroom units between levels seven and 26, exclusive skyhouse units between levels 27 and 38, and a series of penthouses and sub-penthouses on its top level.

There will be a range of health-related tenants for medical suites, a wellness spa and heated pools.

It will also feature a “large tavern”, the “exclusive Monarch Imperial club, a golf simulator and private cinema”.

Mr Badalotti last year revealed further details about its opulent features.

“The Monarch Imperial Club will span over 2000sq m, offering guests an abundance of amenities to cater to their every need. Additionally, there will be a 1500sq m childcare facility on-site to further enhance the offering for families, ensuring that every aspect of comfortable living is addressed,” he said at the time.

Also planned is “an exciting retail offering on the ground level and first floor, incorporating an extensive food and dining offering with an up-scale food hall/social dining hall, which will include a taste of Italy restaurant”.
