A PETROL station just out of Toowoomba is preparing to reap the benefits of the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing.

Zimms Corner Service Station is getting a $3 million upgrade that will see the station open 24 hours a day.

The $1.6 billion Toowoomba bypass will pass directly by Zimms Corner and lead to Wellcamp Airport.

Service station owner Olga Marr is expecting business to boom.

The development was recently given approval by Toowoomba Regional Council and Ms Marr said excavation work would start within weeks.

She is only awaiting final permission from the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection.

Ms Marr said she was delighted to learn that Nexus would start construction on the project this year.

"I want work to get started as soon as possible. We've been waiting for this for the last 30 years," she said.

The service station owner also lauded the Queensland Government's duplication of the Warrego Hwy between Toowoomba and Oakey.

"It's about time that we had a half decent road here," she said.

"We've been driving through potholes and on a bad road for so long that we've got used to it."

Zimms Corner is located on the Warrego Hwy at the turnoff to Kingsthorpe and relies on both local and state-wide traffic.
