They may have just publicly wished Prince Harry a happy birthday, but neither King Charles nor Prince William will meet the US-based prince on his upcoming trip home.
The Duke of Sussex, who has been patron of WellChild for the past 16 years, will return to London on September 30 for the charity’s annual award ceremony to honour the brave children who live with serious illnesses.
Despite both the king and William wishing Harry a perfunctory happy 40th on social media on Sunday, neither will be extending him an olive branch on his visit home, a royal insider has told the Daily Beast.
“Harry is not expecting the call-up from the king or William,” the source told the Daily Beast, adding that King Charles remains on holiday in Scotland and William’s “focus is on his family right now.”
King Charles is said to be having a splendid time on his summer break to Scotland – a tradition which his late mother Queen Elizabeth also held dear.
The snub comes after Harry and William ignored one another when they both attended the funeral of their uncle Lord Robert Fellowes – the husband of Diana’s sister Lady Jane – in July.
On that occasion, Harry stayed in his mother’s childhood home with his uncle Charles, Diana’s brother.
This time, the royal source indicated Harry would be crashing at a hotel with no royal residence being made available for him.
Britain’s royal family continue to remain at odds with Prince Harry since his sudden departure for California in 2020.
The rift deepened following the explosive interview Harry and his wife Meghan Markle gave to talk show queen Oprah Winfrey where they suggested senior royals expressed “concern” about the skin colour of their then unborn child Archie.
The interview was followed by the couple’s Netflix documentary and Harry’s memoir Spare, both of which contained damaging allegations against the royals.
The situation is further strained as Harry continues to take legal action against the British government for denying him taxpayer funded security while he is on UK soil.
