Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have issued a statement ahead of the US election after claims the Duchess of Sussex is eyeing up a future in politics.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have issued a statement ahead of the US election, encouraging Americans to get out and vote.
The California-based couple marked National Voter Registration Day by having their employees at the Archewell Foundation take part in a personalised letter-writing activity to “support and empower” unregistered voters.
“Voting is not just a right; it’s a fundamental way to influence the fate of our communities,” a statement shared on their website read.
“At The Archewell Foundation, we recognise that civic engagement, no matter one’s political party, is at the heart of a more just and equitable world,” it continued.
“By participating in initiatives like this, we aim to amplify the message that every voice matters.”
The foundation used Vote Forward’s letter-writing tool for guidance and invited others to “join (them) in this important effort.”
“Together, let’s make sure every eligible voter is informed and empowered to participate in shaping America’s future,” the statement concluded.
The website featured photos of the volunteers hard at work but the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not photographed.
It comes amid long-held speculation that Meghan is eyeing up a future career in politics.
A friend of Meghan previously told Vanity Fair that one of the reasons Meghan did not give up her American citizenship when she married into the royal family was to allow her to keep open the option of entering politics.
It is not the first time the Sussexes have spoken out about the importance of voting.
Ahead of the 2020 US election, they filmed a video statement from the garden of their then newly bought Montecito mansion.
In the video address, Prince Harry told US voters to “reject hate speech” while Meghan labelled the 2020 presidential race the “most election of our lifetime”.
While Prince Harry and Meghan did not name their favoured candidate then, many viewers thought it “obvious” they were backing Joe Biden over Donald Trump.
In the aftermath, Republicans and other critics called on the royal family to strip the couple of their titles, calling the political interference of the Sussexes “inappropriate”.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman said at the time: “We would not comment. The Duke is not a working member of the Royal Family and any comments he makes are made in a personal capacity.”
