THE developer of Wellcamp Airport is calling for expressions of interest from retail and hospitality businesses looking to open shop later this year.
Airport general manager Phil Gregory said the terminal precinct had already attracted interest from national food chains and some of Australia's top car rental companies.
"We have received substantial inquires from some major food outlets regarding the airport terminal and expect to have more formal commitments in the coming months."
The terminal will have 800sq m of retail space available in its first stage of construction.

Mr Gregory was confident major airlines would also soon be on board.
"Significant negotiations have been underway for sometime and we expect to confirm routes in the next few months," Mr Gregory said.
The runway is only a few months away from completion.
"It's a very exciting time and Toowoomba and Surat Basin is one of Australia's hottest investment areas right now with more than $6 billion currently being invested in the region," Mr Gregory said.
"We expect the airport to inject about $318 million into the local economy in the first three years of operation, along with the creation of more than 2000 jobs."
Along with the $100-million-plus airport, other key projects include the $330 million redevelopment of the Grand Central Gardens Town Shopping Centre, the $1.66 billion Toowoomba bypass and the $235 million Interlink SQ.
The terminal - designed by award-winning Canberra-based Guida Moseley Brown Architects and built by FK Gardner and Sons - is expected to be finished by the end of August.
Mr Gregory said the terminal was being built in two stages with the first 8000sq m comprising core infrastructure such as car parking, bus, taxi and hire car areas, ticketing desks, baggage retrieval, departure lounges, cafes, bar and retail areas and planning spaces for office tenancies and airlines clubs.
The terminal's second phase will allow the current facilities to expand into an additional 4500sq m area as passenger numbers increase.
