A NEW video shared to social media shows how one of the key features of the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing came to be.

The 800m Toowoomba viaduct is now mostly complete and Nexus has shared a time-lapse video showing its construction over the past couple of years. 

Elsewhere on the construction site, works on the Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Rd interchange at Wellcamp are now complete, paving the way for safer access to the crossing for motorists coming from the west.

Nexus CEO John Hagan said the 1.1km section of Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Road, upgraded as part of an interchange for the Crossing, had reopened to traffic.

"The Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Road interchange will be a key feature for motorists accessing the TSRC from Wellcamp, western Toowoomba and Western Downs regional communities," Mr Hagan said.

"This section interacts with key freight routes including the Warrego Highway, Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Road and the Gore Highway.

"To accommodate the new interchange, we upgraded more than a kilometre of road to provide a safe passage for motorists accessing the TSRC."

Mr Hagan said building a major piece of infrastructure around existing roads and highways was one of the biggest challenges to overcome when planning and constructing the crossing.

"Nexus thanks motorists for their patience while the works were completed," he said. 

The Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Road interchange is one of six interchanges for the TSRC and involved the construction of two on-ramps allowing motorists to access the TSRC in both directions, two off-ramps allowing eastbound and westbound motorists to exit the TSRC, a three-span bridge taking the TSRC over the upgraded road and two signalised intersections to improve safety.

Mr Hagan said the Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Road interchange will be the first feature visitors see as they travel from the Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport.

It will provide options for haulage vehicle operators and commuters to use the TSRC to their advantage.
