THE Warrego Highway in Chinchilla will be closed for five days from midnight Friday as upgrade works start.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads advised the highway at the Queensland Rail open level crossing will be closed to all traffic until 6pm Wednesday.
The closure will allow QR and TMR to undertake maintenance of damaged rail tracks and other upgrade works in preparation for planned Warrego Highway upgrades.
Traffic will be detoured along an approved B-double route along Cemetery Rd, Chinchilla-Wondai Rd, Park St and Colamba St, with contingencies for heavy vehicles to turn around if they miss the initial detour signs.
Dust suppression will be enforced, and TMR advised residents and businesses could expect some light and noise impacts.
Local traffic access will be maintained up to the crossing, with emergency vehicle access through the intersection preserved.
Pedestrian access will be 200m west of Wambo St.
Traffic management will be in place at the track closure and detour points.
The works are part of the Warrego Highway Upgrade Program.
