Shocking footage has captured the moment players from rival soccer clubs exchanged punches during a violent on-field brawl in Fawkner.

A wild brawl between two rival soccer clubs forced officials to suspend a match in Melbourne’s north over the weekend.

Video captured the moment players from the Moreland United Football Club and Fawkner Soccer Club exchanged punches midgame on Saturday afternoon.

Several skirmishes broke out between players around Moomba Park at Fawkner SC’s home ground, prompting some on the sideline to rush onto the pitch to break it up.

In footage shared to the Herald Sun, one player can be seen running after an opposition player before jumping up and throwing a wild haymaker in his direction.

Fans and onlookers can be heard yelling an jeering as the scuffle escalates.

“Well done ref,” a man on the sidelines can be heard shouting.

Both clubs were contacted for comment, with a Fawkner SC spokeswoman saying it was aware of the incident but declined to say anything further.

Moreland United have not yet responded.

It is understood both clubs are known for causing issues throughout the local football community.

Football Victoria is investigating the fight with a spokeswoman saying both clubs had been co-operated with officials so far.

“We are aware of this incident and currently investigating and have requested both clubs show cause and respond to our information request,” she said.

Football Victoria said it condemns all “poor and anti-social behaviour” but would not say if any players involved in the brawl on Saturday had been disciplined.

Educational seminars are set to be conducted for all senior men’s clubs over the next few weeks.

A source close to the incident, who wished to remain anonymous, was critical of Football Victoria’s history of handling anti-social behaviour on and off the field.

“The governing body (Football Victoria) don’t care and pay lip service to supposedly cracking down on things like this,” he said.

It comes just three weeks after video emerged of a group of men fighting after a local fixture between Preston Lions Football Club and Northcote Football Club.

The violent attack took place in the carpark at John Cain Memorial Park in Thornbury, with the video capturing one man being kicked in the head.
